Items:

1._____ A set of unique supplement prompts. [15 points]
Discuss an accomplishment…describe a time you experienced…how did this failure affect…find x…briefly elaborate on — wait, find ‘x’? I scrolled back up, curious to know where that prompt came from. After weeks of reading about different colleges and scrolling through the same mundane essay questions, I knew I had finally found the right college when I saw the UChicago prompts.

2._____ An aversion to people who try to control my thoughts. [42 points]
UChicago aims to teach how to think, rather than what to think. It wants me to challenge rather than mindlessly accept. Here, education is an investigation rather than a lecture. For instance, the Social Science Inquiry

What draws me to UChicago is not just its diverse student body and faculty, but also its visibly deep commitment to diversity. The chance to learn in a place which has welcomed students from all genders and ethnicities since its opening, and the chance to study along with people from a range of different backgrounds is something I would really look forward to.

4._____ The Core Curriculum catalog. [27 points]
The interdisciplinary Core Curriculum is the epitome of UChicago’s inquisitive learning environment. The general education requirements seem like the perfect way to explore a variety of new fields. For instance, I would love to take BIOS 14112 Workings of the Human Brain as a part of my biological science sequence as I have never been exposed to neurobiology before.
5._____ A ticket to Istanbul. [23 points]
As someone who enjoys experiential learning, the study abroad opportunities at UChicago are very appealing. I would love to fulfill my Civilization studies by studying Middle Eastern Civilizations in Istanbul. It would be a way to learn about a historical topic I have never had the opportunity study, while discovering a beautiful and culturally rich

I have been a Xavier University Smooth Transition (ST) mentor for 3 years since the years of 2014-2016. Smooth Transition is a first-year student summer pre-orientation and year-long peer mentoring program that seeks to support underrepresented domestic and help them transition smoothly to college. Most smooth Transition students are often African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. Being a smooth transition requires selflessness as the program unpaid and requires one to dedicate their time to helping another student, as most of the time, the smooth mentors can be the only one that the student can depend on. As a mentor, I have guided first-year students to make good decisions in their college years to succeed in the…

The diversity at NC State is one of the many reasons that draws me to the University. I look forward to meeting the vast array of individuals who all unite as one in the Wolfpack. Diversity will allow me to understand different people for who they are, not how they are presented in the media and popular culture. Different viewpoints, languages, ethnic groups, and nationalities are just a few of the things I hope to experience at NC State. I find it important to create acquaintances from various backgrounds in order to unite ourselves as fellow humans, regardless of where we were born or what language we speak.…

Even though it does not feel as though I have improved much, I know that the grades on my essays say differently. After looking over my essays, I noticed that I have become better with using evidence to support my papers. This, to me, is my best accomplishment. I have also improved on my word choice, organization, and how I use my quotes. If you were to compare the first paper I wrote to the last paper I wrote, I feel as though it would be obvious on how much my organization has improved.…

UNV-100 Final Project It is enjoyable to me when study at a university with multi-cultural students and professors. What differentiates the students from each other at the AUAF are the racial, ethnical and gender varieties. It is obvious that the students who came from western part of Afghanistan culturally differ from the one who joined AUAF from northern part of the country. From my point of view, diversity in a society, specially, at the university is not only an opportunity for the students to learn about different cultures and demography, but help us to improve the quality of life and education by conspiring of their views and opinions pertaining enhancement of quality education and life.…

I've always loved different cultures and tried to surround myself in as many as possible however I could. This was usually me trying to learn on my own from the internet, music and movies, but I was still missing that X factor that really made me indulge in other cultures. As soon as I walked onto Swarthmore's campus I felt that X factor. Sitting in the info session and taking the tour, I truly felt at home. The small diverse campus allows for people of completely different backgrounds and cultures to have real relationships that they might not have even noticed anywhere else in the world.…

I am so excited for the opportunity to share in this most diverse campus at NC State! Being a student at NC State, I would both benefit from and contribute to campus diversity. It would enable me to learn about different cultures and inevitably make me a more sensitive person and more tolerant of other peoples views and religious beliefs. Also, being a student at such a diverse campus would prepare me for the work force where I'll encounter people from all walks of life who's views might be different from my own. What I would like to contribute to NC State's diversity are my own set of views and perspectives.…

When we talk about college, we often speak of its problems. We, as an intelligent society question what we have been doing. Question if a college education is worth what we are giving.
