He was excited because today was the 150th anniversary of the peace that had been brought to the only community left in the world known as Esterville. There would be a big gathering in the town square, everyone had to go to the gathering. It was a rule that Ester had left.
Esterville was left since the war that had brought down the world, Tom learnt about it in his school. The biggest war ever that had been fought for only a mere 12 days but still managed to kill off almost the entire population of the earth due to continuous bombings and riots. Since then there had been no wars, no fights and no conflict. Tom’s teacher said that there used to be fights and conflict before, but Ester changed all of that.

He wondered if it were possible. He wondered if he could ever feel the heights and lows of emotions like humans used to.
In a rush, Tom grabbed his suit and backpack for the day. His bedroom was well organised and was placed in what was called block 2. This is where people between the ages of 6 and 18 who weren’t allowed to work and were too old to be placed in block 1 where the infants were raised and taught the ways of Esterville. Tom raced out the door not realising he had forgotten to take his daily medication. Usually there would be someone on duty but they were all at the gathering and Tom was late.
Tom was running down the stairs of his block when suddenly he realised that he forgotten his injection. He was contemplating weather to go back to his room but he knew he was already late. He would usually start to feel tired by the time that he had run this far, but for some reason not today. Was he starting to feel the effects of the medication? Was he fitter all of a sudden? What other effects did this medication have on him?
Tom with his athletic body and long blonde hair bouncing in the wind as he ran, arrived at the gathering, almost two hours late.
His friends Gareth and Kyle came up to him.
‘Hey hey hey, it’s the man himself.’ Said Gareth. Taller than Kyle but usually similar in stature. Tom noticed that today Gareth looked even taller and a lot more muscly than Kyle. Could this have been from the medication? Was the medication making people all feel as though they were all equal?
‘Hey… guys.’ Tom said panting after his run. Surprised that he had run so far in such a short amount of time.
‘You look weird man what’s up?’ Kyle said
