According to Porter O-Grady (2016) the importance of an effective multidisciplinary handoff has been identified as important component in achieving the desired outcomes and maintaining continuity of care. One of the disadvantages of the SBAR is the amount of information given and whether or not there are distractors during the handoff. For example, when I later read the physician notes I realized that it said the patient was sedated. When I contacted the physician to clarify, he was aware the patient had been off of the sedation for over twenty-four hours.
