All my life I’ve heard of the effects and problems that come from smoking, yet the government still allows people to do it. Smoking causes about 480,000 deaths in just the U.S each year. Smoking is a major problem in the world and it should be made illegal. There are countless reasons to make smoking illegal. Cigarettes greatly affect the people using them, effect more than just the people smoking them, and create lots of litter and pollution. Smoking greatly affects people and our environment and they should be illegal. As stated above cigarettes greatly damages the life of the people that use them. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the world. If you smoke five or more cigarettes a day the chances of you getting lung cancer …show more content…
Cigarettes cause litter and air pollution, which greatly damage our environment. The Earth is already damaged and people are trying to help it, but cigarettes aren’t helping. Cigarette butts are a major source of the worlds litter. In an article by truthinitvated.org it states that nearly 1/3 of the worlds litter is cigarette butts. How can there be so many cigarettes laying around? Well, 75% of smokers admit to improperly disposing their used cigarettes sometimes. After many years they start to build up because they are not biodegradable. The atmosphere is also greatly effected because cigarettes carry thousands of toxins which pollute the air. Banning cigarettes could help the earth recover and stop any further damage. Despite my evidence some people will still argue that smoking should be legal. Some common arguments are that it violates people’s rights and some can’t stop their addiction. However reports show that it doesn’t violate any rights at all. The government bans items every day so why would cigarettes be any exception. Also many people are addicted to cigarettes, but there are many institutions to get help from. However many people don’t receive help because they are too embarrassed or don’t think they need it. Despite the counter argument there is too much evidence to support banning

Many people use smoking as a way to cope with emotional hardships. If we make smoking illegal what’s to say that some people turn to “harsher,” drugs as a means of escaping for a bit. Smoking should not be made illegal I propose that it should just be allowed in certain areas and that is only because it could be harmful to the people around them. Nonsmokers should also have the choice whether they want to breathe it or not. Work…

Since the first settlers came here from England, cigarettes and tobacco has been a part of the American culture. Back then, the feeble government and economy was greatly dependent on the product, but now, while it does still bring in money, it’s a major health risk and overall danger to the U.S and the populous who live in it because of very dire and controversial reasons. The U.S should no longer sell cigarettes and make them illegal because it would decrease the annual death toll, it would over all make the population healthier, and it would bring profit to safer alternatives. The first argument is that it would reduce the annual death toll.…

It is very hard for smokers to quit even up to a year after they started smoking regularly. Therefore, it is very hard to keep a stance that tobacco should be banned in America. However, because people have an addiction should not mean that we still don’t try to make smoking less and less common. Tobacco companies see the protests and fights that people are trying to push for law makers and congressmen to make tobacco products illegal. Their action is almost petty.…

A lot of cigarette representatives will argue that there is no harm in smoking, especially to the individuals who aren’t behind, “the puff.” Sadly both those statements aren’t true, did you know that over 1075 smokers and 137 second hand smokers die from smoke related deaths every day. Most of these deaths are provided by the 69 different animal and human carcinogens implanted in cigarettes every day. Carcinogens are substances that are capable of causing cancer in living tissue. Many smokers and big tobacco companies will argue that there is no effect on the students and teachers if smoking were allowed.…
