We contemplated whether to follow him because doing so could be a risk. I decided to follow him in order to know what he was up to. George then went to get help. He was heading to the main pavilion on the pier. George and I went up the stairs to the derelict pavilion to investigate. We saw him standing in front of an old shop. He was picking the locks. I just couldn’t see anything. The heat and smoke were too unbearable. As I crawled further up, the heat was getting hotter. I found him near a trash bin. He was still breathing, so I picked him up and walked back to the emergency services. I thought to myself, this could have been much worse. Who knows how many could have been killed! The smoke began to dissipate and I was able to see. Dozens of people were on the floor coughing and crying. The fire crew were racing to put out the fire. Hours later, the fire chief gave the clear. Luckily, there were no fatalities in the blast. However, there were numerous historical seaside beach buildings that were either slightly damaged or destroyed.
The holiday where I was supposed to take a break turned out to be a fight for survival and trying to save the lives of innocent civilians. It seems as if I can’t escape police life. Maybe I’m not tough enough for the job. What do you
