Introduction-

Rajasthan has a rich craft and cultural heritage.Among the various crafts the most practiced and known craft is hand block printing. Printing is done at several places in Rajasthan and each place has its unique impact on the craft, due to historical, cultural and geographical impact and influences. Every region has developed its own style. The region of Sanganer has emerged as one such centre for the well known craft of hand block printing. Village Sanganer is situated around 30 km from the walled city of Jaipur. It has been a major centre for very fine block making and printing units accommodating more than 5000 block printers. Already located at the prime location, Sanganer was greatly benefited when in 1727 Maharaja Jai Singh moved the capital from Amber (Amer) in the Aravalli foothills to Jaipur on the plain below. As the population grew commercial areas become increasingly congested and craftsmen spilled outside of the confining city walls. Sanganer offered open space, freely available running water and a supportive community of rangrez and dhobias. As production increased, a slow migration occurred. Once the fabric is washed and dried ironing is done, which further fixes the color permanently. This final process of washing is called Dhulaai.

e) Product size and packaging – What is currently in use, its safety and esthetics features and alternate suggestions
