The issue of same sex conduct has been a controversial not only in America, but across the globe with some countries outlawing it. Gay rights have sparked controversies with proponents and opponents coming out strongly guns blazing, giving different views in support or against the issue. The receptive environment surrounded by the desire to expand civil liberties and grant rights to individuals regardless of whether they are straight or not has, further, perpetuated the issue. The concept of the family has had to be redefined because of the emergence of the fight to protect lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals. Traditionally, the family was known to have a father (male), mother (female) and children sired by both parents.

The same applies to Islam. Both the Bible and the Quran are against the idea of the same-sex persons getting involved in sexual acts. It is considered immoral and improper, something that should not be allowed to happen in the society. These two major world religions advocate for procreation as designed by God. When two individuals of the same sex get married, they cannot fulfill this requirement of procreation. The issue of LGBT, thus, has not just been one of social concern, but also a moral and religious one. In countries where much steps have not been taken to expand the civil liberties, gay rights have been outlawed (Shelton, 2013). It is likely that there will still be more criticisms and support of the queer individuals by some of the straight counterparts. The liberals will see no problem with their being different, but the conservatives will continues being critical of them. From the religious spheres, the homosexuals will continue to receive criticisms and sometimes condemnation. While I do not support the subjection of the gays to hostility, ridicule, discrimination and humiliation, I do not support their conduct. There is a reason why both genders exist and engaging in same sex marriages makes no sense of the natural gender differences (West, 2014). The idea of legalizing the rights of homosexuals should be rethought in order to discourage straight individuals who may wish to become homosexuals from doing
