I like the book Made in America my Story it was well written. I enjoyed reading about Sam Walton’s life, and that his mom was a good motivator who supported him. It was interesting that when he had a lot of money, but found a way that he does not need to spend a lot. I guess it is because he grew up in the great depression era He said, “That’s simple because we should believe in the value of the dollar.” Sam and his family thought that if the money was spent foolishly, it would come out of the customer’s pocket.
I learned that moms are good motivators that believe in their children. Sam Walton’s mom said to him that he “should be the best he could at whatever he took on.” I found it interesting that Sam was good at retail. He worked at JC Penney’s for 18 months and was very good in his department. Sam had a lot of confidence in himself, and wanted to start his own business. While reading I saw that he was a quick learner and studied about retailing for his business. Sam’s wife Helen knew a about starting up a business. His ideas of Wal-Mart started after he worked as a retailer and owned his own store, but he had to buy from a vendor called Ben Franklin.
