I thought it was going to be crowded and cluttered with people. There would be homeless people all over the hallways and it’d be disorganized and messy. This perspective came about when I was a young child in elementary school and children would make fun of other kids, insulting them on their clothing and their need for Salvation Army services. Knowing I was one of those kids who shopped at the thrift store, I didn’t say anything but agree. A number of people I associated with, spoke rudely about the agency. I never been into one but my parents did shop in their thrift stores. However, when I walked through the doubled window doors, my point of view changed drastically. The hallways were clean, cleared, and smelled like Pine-sol. The ladies were nice and assisted me to Ms. Rosemary’s office. The folks that were waiting in the entrance to speak to the front desk receptionist were complete sweethearts. At 12 PM til 1 PM, the Salvation Army has lunch for the public. You could go in, sign in, sit down, eat, and take some food home. I went to eat with another volunteer I knew from high school and it was a huge eye-opener. On my way there, I watched a homeless young adult argue with his mother on the phone. When I sat down, I observed many people coming to eat. They do all they can to reach to other facilities and agencies to get the job done. They care about people and have the best interest for the community/population. The Salvation Army cannot promise everything and that’s a downside to the organization. They will try and, most of the time, accomplish, but with certain things, it is not always guaranteed. When I answered the phone, there was a woman who was looking for furniture vouchers because she did not have a table to eat on or couches to sit on. I asked Ms. Barbara about that and she said they do not do that. That means the woman will have to buy them on her own or have someone donate theirs. Overall, I think this was a wonderful project for my first course in college and I appreciate. Now I am certain that this is the field for
