The World Health Organization (WHO) professes that an estimated five hundred twenty-eight million people have been diagnoses with a foodborne disease, where three hundred fifty-one thousand people have died. Over ten percent of these deaths have been caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), a bacteria that in most strains causes mild diarrhea, but in more drastic cases can cause as much as vomiting, cramps, and bloody diarrhea. E. coli lives in the intestines of warm-blooded creatures,it is also known to be found in undercooked meat and uncleaned vegetables. Salmonella accounts for almost fifteen percent of worldwide foodborne disease deaths. Salmonella has many similarities to E. coli, but is considered more dangerous if untreated. Children are most susceptible due to their still growing immune system. This disruption causes more childhood deaths severely unbalancing the population of children to adult. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the supposed savior of the American citizen’s health was unmasked to have bought meat from supplies arbitrarily picking the cheapest suppliers not the healthiest alternative. Other companies were charged with more heinous crimes like processing meat that had been killed days earlier which by most standards is utterly disgusting. They also hid spoiled and infected meat from inspectors Some factories were even permeated with rodents. Inspectors and health assessors have time after time have called many meat companies’ products unfit of human consumption proving that the meat industry is not in it for customers, but just to make a quick buck.
One of the worst parts of the corrupt producing agencies is that many of them supply to schools! 30.4 million students are being served lunch everyday that, a multitudinous amount of food is found to be adulterated with infectious diseases. Our future generation is being poisoned at astronomically young age meaning the unhealthy food trend with continue until someone has the courage to stop this mass contagion.
