Salinity In Shrimp

Decent Essays
My science fair project is: what is the effect of salinity levels on ghost shrimp? My hypothesis to that question is that all of the shrimp in the first cup, that had no salt, would all survive, the majority of the shrimp of the second cup, that had three pieces of salt, would die and about half of the shrimp in the third cup, that only had one piece of salt, would survive. My science fair project lasted for six days, and during those six days, the salinity levels and the shrimp proved my theory wrong. On Day one, all of the shrimp remained alive. On Day two, none of the shrimp died. The next day, on Day three, one shrimp in each cup died. The day after that, on Day four, all of the remaining shrimp in the first cup died, none of the shrimp

A possible error that could have been made was not doing at least three experiments. If more experiments were done, the information would have been more accurate. Another possible error was only using two liquids. If more than two liquids were used in this experiment, then the information would have also been more accurate. A major error in this experiment was using a different starting temperature for each trial.…

Record the result Analysis: The data shows that the heads and tails shared the average of 17-18 drops of water. It also tells that it doesn’t matter which side to use when doing an experiment. No matter which side of the penny was used, the result will come out the same. Discussion/Conclusion: Our hypothesis was supported…

We hypothesized that pill bugs would display a positive hydrotaxis and a negative chemotaxis, but our last experiment supports a reaction to chemotaxis. Since we placed them in a tray with all chemical-filled chambers, we weren’t able to tell if they drift towards diluted solutions because they contained more water. The products of the Chi Square Test told us whether the results of our experiments were significant or not. Our results in Part A and B were significant because the calculations proved the null hypothesis wrong and supported our hypothesis; the bugs displayed a positive hydrotaxis and a negative chemotaxis in these two situations. On the other hand, Part C can be invalidated because the bugs did respond when placed between 4 concentrated-chemical solutions.…

For years this planet has been undergoing vast changes in its environment, wildlife, and mostly our oceans. The acidifying of our oceans is because of all the Carbon Dioxide that is absorbed by seawater. A chemical reaction that occur which reduces seawater's pH. All of the Carbon Dioxide is being put into our atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels. Calcium carbonate minerals are the building blocks for the skeletons of shells of many marine organisms. In certain areas where life now congregates in the ocean, the seawater, is supersaturated with calcium carbonate mineral.…

CONCLUSION: Two weeks ago, Soundings XVI performed Lab Experiment Number Two. Lab Experiment Number Two was similar to the previous, Lab Experiment Number One. The prompt was to compare the results of pennies dropped in water, versus the result of pennies being dropped into milk, both at 100 mL. The main purpose of this lab was to further discuss more scientific parts of this lab, such as the surface tension when the cylinder was close to overflowing for both the milk and water. Before performing this lab, my group and I created a hypothesis to reflect upon and to state what we believed would dictate the results.…

This science fair idea was interesting because of the way that bass react to the different types of lures and the effect of different topwater lures. The bass reacted by striking the bigger lures harder and more often, and because the lure acts like the bass food. This happens because of the different movement each lure gives. The point of this experiment is to find out how different sizes of bass will react to different sizes and movements of top water baits. A topwater lure is something that people mainly use for catching large and smallmouth bass.…

Another source of error could have been that since the experimentation was over a two day timeframe, one group could have used two different bubble bottles to create their bubble populations. For example, the first soap bubble group tested was the one without help and this population of bubbles survived at least ten to twenty seconds after hitting the ground, but the next day, a different bottle was used and when doing experimentation for the bubble population with help, the bubbles had a tendency to pop immediately upon hitting the ground, which would have made it appear as though the populations without help did survived longer than the populations with help because two different bubble bottles were…

My hypothesis was that Brine Shrimp prefer living in extreme conditions with high temperatures and high salinity levels. my prediction was that they would like the glucose solution. The first type of food I tested was (glucose), when I dropped the solution into the water they immediately swam away from the (positive) but after a minute they started to swim towards the (positive) but the most Brine Shrimp I got in the (positive) was 2 at the 2 and 4 minute checks. The results were pretty much the same for (egg white) but they didn't swim away from the (positive) right away. The most I had in the (positive) was 2 Brine Shrimp at the 2 minute check.…

Prior studies that have examined the independent effects of salinity and temperature on Daphnia have revealed that physiological rate processes including reproduction is negatively affected by increasing salinity, but the reproduction was positively affected by increasing temperature (Arner & Koivisto, 1993; Ghazy et al., 2009; Heugens et al., 2006; Schuytema, Nebeker, & Stutzman, 1997).…

The first hypothesis stated that if rabbits have brown fur, they will be more likely to survive under food conditions within a cold environment. The data from the experiment disproved the hypothesis. In the controlled version, where the food survival was out of play, there were more white fur rabbits at generations 3 (13 to 5) and 6 (340-150). When the food survival was put into play, there were more white fur rabbits at generations 3 (6-0) and 6 (1-0). While the white fur generation had nearly died out by the sixth generation with only generation, and could have easily died out by the generation after, it still fared better than brown fur bunnies, who died out before the third generation.…

My hypotheses was that the Brine shrimp would grow and develop faster in blue, slowly in red, normally in the plain and purple, and almost not at all in the darkness. Our independent variables are the different color exposures of light and of course the dependent variables is the rate of development in the brine shrimp. The factors that we are able to control are things like the salt water concentration, the temperature, the constant light, and the water levels. The experimental group includes the petri dishes under the red, blue, and purple films, along with the petri dishes covered in aluminum foil. The control group is the petri dish that is constantly getting…

For this experiment my hypothesis was correct. The control petri dish germinated nine out of ten radish seeds, and the acid rain petri dish germinated zero out of ten radish seeds. For the second experiment, I said in my hypothesis was that both sets of plants, that were given the acid rain solutions, would underperform compared to the control; and the set of plants given the acid rain solution with a pH of three would underperform the control, as well as, the set of plants given and acid rain solution with a pH of five. For this experiment my hypothesis was half correct. Group B, with the acid rain solution with a pH of three, underperformed both group C, with the acid rain solution with a pH of five, and group A, the control.…

The trials were used to show how soap can change the droplets that could be held on the penny. The results of the trial helped me see what happened when I added soap to the water. It tells me whether my hypothesis was correct when I tested it and whether the results can prove my point. After analyzing the data, my hypothesis was correct. I was able to see a trend that the penny was able to hold 40+ droplets of tap water each time, but there were some exceptions, while the penny was able to hold 10+ drops each time.…

The purpose of this EEI is to create and analyse an experiment that relates to and supports the theory of osmosis in biological cells. Cells are the biological building block for all life; all living organisms have cells also. Cells provide structure, absorb nutrients from food and convert those nutrients into energy so that the cell can carry out specialized functions. There are two main categories with most organisms and their cells; prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The distinctive difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is that eukaryotic cells contain membrane-bound organelles, such as the nucleus, while as prokaryotic cells do not.…

Some errors that occurred in this experiment where the measurements, the thought of the size of the bin didn't come to mind so, the measurements were based on a small container. Later in, the other material that wasn’t taken to importance was how many rulers were going to be used. Originally it would have been one but as realized there was gonna be two needed for both sand and water. The materials were adjusted and clarified on how many and exact measurements that would be used. This whole lab was based on seeing how water erosion worked and the impact it had on sea shores, river banks, etc.…
