Understanding the standards that the laws expects from a nurse will keep the nurse out of trouble. If a nurse understands those legal expectations then he/she can put in place safe practice in the clinical and community settings.
Poison related legislations are amended to have a control over the procurement, supply and usage of poisons with a aim to protect the public health and it minimizes accidental and deliberate poisoning, reduces usage of poisons illegally and for wrong purpose . In Victoria State it is regulated by drugs, poisons and controlled substance act 1981 and drugs, poison and controlled substances regulation 2006.Section 36 F of the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substance Act 1981 declares that a Registered Nurse who manages any drugs with risk for dependence should follow the guideline issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law11.
