2. What is the agency’s history?
The Safe Place first opened the doors to teenagers in 1974 as in increase of parents cutting off their children at a young age and those who runaway due to domestic violence, abuse or neglect. The demand of additional programs to facilitate family’s intervention and youth outreach forced the agency to expend their services such as mentoring, street outreach, truancy prevention and outgoing services. What are the agency’s goals and objectives?
The Safe Place goals include strengthen of the community, increase of positive relationship among young adults and their families, and to ensure the safety of the children who benefit from this agency. This in the long run will decrease violence, improve social skills, promote self-sufficient, and improve of school performance.
When working with teenagers, the main goal is to help them find out who they are, where they want to go in life, and to encourage them to make the right decision and to rich their highest potential.

This is not part of the foster home system, but it can be used as a temporary shelter for children awaiting placement. Majority of the cases are due to domestic violence, runaway children, and family intervention during crisis.
