The first group we had stayed for about three weeks. I was partnered up with a girl named Rita. I was supposed to show her around and also take her to my classes. We did this so they can see how the American school system is. At first I was shy and so was she, but I became confident and started talking to her even though I thought my Mandarin was pretty terrible. We got along over the weeks and soon became great friends. Soon another group came, but this time they only stayed for about a week. I was partnered up with a boy named Jason. At first we we’re shy and didn’t talk to each other, but I remember being shy around Rita and then we became friends. So I sucked it up and talked to him. Even though it was hard talking to someone new, I was glad I did it. Overcoming my anxiety was very rewarding. This was a great way to make friends even though we kind of had a language barrier, but we overcame that barrier together. I was upset when they had to leave. But soon in the summer we will see them again because we’re taking a trip to China. This helped me with my communication skills. I was never good at communicating with other people. After communicating with people in a different language helped me overcome my fear and be more confident in talking with other people. Sometime I still get nervous talking, but not was nervous as before. I am glad I had this experience and I would like to do this

The conversation was terrific, and they both thought I had a fabulous attitude. They have a very relaxed, non-judgemental, and open-minded outlook that I expect from the French and German people, which put me at ease. I can still remember the first day of school. Not the normal first day of school when your mom guides you to your kindergarten classroom, but the first day of school in America. A wave of terror overcame every nerve in my body and my face tensed up as I strutted across the front of my English class. I wasn’t completely new to the area or the American way of living since I was born in El Paso, but moved to Mexico shortly after birth.…
