I have played violin since I was six and piano since I was seven. I played in the Golden Gate Philharmonic for two years as a member of their Senior orchestra as well as a quartet. I played in Summer Music West camp held at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a summer camp that requires an audition. Though presently I am not a member of any orchestra, I would like to participate in a high school orchestra.

I volunteered for the SF Food Bank program since I was nine. I would go two Sundays a month, but with the amount of recitals and fencing tournaments that has lessened. I also volunteer for the SF Parks and Recreation with friends. Two years ago I spent two weeks in Thailand volunteering at an elephant sanctuary north of Chang Mai.

I fence saber competitively and am a member of Halberstadt Fencers’ Club. In the season of 2013/14 I was second at the U.S. Summer Nationals and 6th in the country. Last season I was the highest ranked fencer in Region four (CA, NV, UT, CO, AZ, NM). I was the Y12 Women’s Saber Series winner in the Bay area, meaning I won and placed highest at the most Bay Cup events. I am an E rated fencer and have a national and regional ranking. Last summer I went with my fencing club to

I love reading. I play badminton with my friends sometimes and squash with my dad. I like to go jogging at Mission Rocks. My favorite activities are playing squash and skiing with my dad because I get to spend time with him.

In summer of 2014, I worked at La Marelle, a French daycare. I babysit sometimes for my dad’s colleagues’ children if the parent is still at home but needs to work without interruption. When I am 13, I will be able to referee at local fencing tournaments and earn money.

My favorite classes are English, Latin, and Math.

I speak French fluently. I have been learning Spanish since the start of 6th grade and Latin since the start of 7th. Last year I won a certificate of merit in the ACL NJCL National Latin

When I was discussing the details of the internship with Dr. Hill, she expressed her concern about the food bank when she retired. Based upon her understanding surrounding the politics of the school, the food bank will close due. She explains that the ‘powers that be’ do not want that type of assistance associated with the community college. As it was discussed in class, higher education is suppose to lead to financial freedom. With this in mind, it is easy to see why an institution of higher education would not want a food bank on its campus.…

After attending the food bank for my ten hours, I learned quite a bit about the certain people who use the food bank and how the food bank operates to take care of a public health issue. I also learned a ton about the majority of people who actually work at the food bank and why it is important for them as well. As the name portrays, the food bank assists in providing food to people with low incomes. Many of these people are actually mentally disabled or physically disabled.…

A topic that has been roaming around Texas has been the usage of food stamps, and the careless act of people. Millions of dollars have been wasted on people that do not even need the government’s help, and the others that honestly need it, go on working hard, to earn money for food. The government believes they are shortening hunger when clearly, they are making it worst. Food Stamps is the second most expensive welfare there is. My sophomore year of high school, I was accepted into the Saber’s Marching Pride Flag corps. At my high school, all freshmen are required to play their instruments because the music is the most important part of the show. Also, it requires the kids to focus on marching basics, drill reading, and learning how to roll step, different from the flag corps where they jazz walk. I have performed with flag corps for the last three years which were named: Groovy Baby, Muevas Sus Huesos, Seven years. Prior to this, I was not very athletic and had no dance background.…

At the Naples Zoo, I assisted during their construction and I guided visitor’s through the zoo, since there was blocked off areas due to the construction. For the Gulf Coast Humane Society, I volunteered with them in a non-traditional way. I collected old t-shirts from Delta Delta Delta sisters and I used them to make over 100 chew toys for the dogs at the humane society. By doing this I know I was able to make an impact on the animals that were already in the shelter as well as the ones that have yet to come.…

It is clear what many students would say if you were to join- why would someone with no musical experience feel inclined to join an organization made for that sole purpose? You have never picked up a violin or cello in your life, so why would you start now? Although these accusations are true, they are just a few of the many reasons why you would be a perfect fit in the orchestra family. Your willingness to tackle a challenge has been a key trait throughout your life, and there is no better way to exercise this than to surround yourself with peers that strive to do the same. Not only are you hard-working, but your cheerful attitude and luminous smile are nothing less than what every orchestra member should try to model themselves after.…
