This is an orthopedic emergency and usually requires prompt surgical intervention, with placement of pins to prevent further slippage. A delay in diagnosis or treatment leads to an increased risk of avascular necrosis of the affected femoral head. This can lead to long-term hip dysfunction and early osteoarthritis.
