Ruby had a rough year at school,she wansnt allowed to go to the cafeteria or go to recess with the other kids. One of the marshals named Charls Burks, who escorted her described her as having a lot of courage. She never whimperd or cried,Burks said “She just marched along like a soldier”. The abuisve situation also took a toll on her family,her father lost his job,her grandparents were sent off the land they had sharecopped for over 25 years, and the grocery store where the family shopped banned them from entering. But with the abuse came the support. Many people in the community,black and white showed suppot in multiple ways. Many families sent their children back to the school,a neighbor gave Ruby`s father a new job,people volunteered to babysit the kids,watch the house, and walked behind the federal marshals on the way to school. By the end of the year,the tension had cooled down and many students had returned to the school. By her second grade year,it seemed like everything changed.
