It was a cold and chilly winter morning on November 15, 2014. I wake up to the dads black and white bearded face telling me to get ready. A few dead silent minutes later i drag myself out of bed and put on my olive drab green/camo Under Armour sweatshirt and a pair of snow camouflage pants. I then rush silently up the stairs in the low light morning and put on my dry snow boots, comfy beenie hat then grab a hunter orange coat that strangly smelled of doe urine. My dad walks up the stairs loudly with the rifle in hand and we walk out the door after getting “goodlucks” and hugs from my mom. We say good bye and walk out the door into the cold snowy forest. “Can I carry the rifle?” I ask. “Sure.” Says dad as He hands me the rifle but not before checking the barrel. It is a 243 caliber rifle with a smooth wood stock, clean metal barrel and a long range scope with a orange camouflage sling. I drape it over my shoulder and we walk quietly out into the snow covered woods. After a few minutes quietly walking we cut off the trail and into the tree line toward the camouflaged ground blind and climb in. We listen to the soft crunch of the snow and snow covered leave while birds of many kind sing their sweet morning songs. We follow the trail through the woods for not even a quarter of a mile then cut off into the trees trying not to step on the …show more content…

Dad gets out his binoculars while I turn off my Kindle and get ready with the rifle but not turning off the safety. I aim down the scope and see nothing so i set the rifle down again and continue playing on my kindle. A few minutes later my dad nudges me and says, “there's a deer out there.” So I pick up the gun again, pull the hammer back and aim down the

I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

Polished Brief Have you ever wanted something so bad that you thought it was necessary for your life to go on, for me that something was a pet dog. At the age of seven I was begging my parents to get me a puppy for about a year, the conversations usually sounded like this “ Hey mom and dad I was wondering if I could get a puppy this year for my birthday?” and they would reply “ I don’t know son a dog is a huge responsibility, I don’t know if you are ready for this yet.” then I would storm off all angry, because I did not get the answer I was looking or hoping for.…

The meals this hobby provided for my family are ones I’ll never forget. The memories of the hours of sitting in a blind, either drawing in the dirt, trying to harmonize with the birds, and sitting in my Father’s lap while he let me try and pull back the strong strings of his bow will always be stirred up by the taste of deer meat spaghetti. We earned those meals, we put in hours of work and were patient for weeks and finally after Lord knows how many hunting trips we’d leave with dinner for my family for months. Although the meals were just something my Dad whipped up on a whim, the time I got to spend with him and the effort we put into those meals will be the memories I’ll never…

Two months later, McCunn recalled in his diary, “[I] had five boxes and when I kept seeing them sitting there I felt rather silly for having brought so many. (Felt like a wa monger.) … real bright. Sadly, we couldn’t get a shot because it was still way too dark but it definitely got my adrenaline going. That was the exact moment I knew I was going to love hunting. My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…

My dad, my brother and I went out before sunset to get settled in our places. My dad was driving so he was going to start at the end of the finger and drive towards my brother and I. My brother stood behind me by a tree and was watching the fence and beyond, while I was in the tree stand ahead of him watching the draw. When we got settled in I messaged my dad to tell him to go ahead and start walking. Before we got into places, we heard rustling in the woods where we were heading and right when I got into view of the area I saw the white tail of a deer jumping the fence.…
