Rough Draft Essay

After reviewing the rough draft presented to me, I have uncovered many areas need to be improved upon. In order to clearly identify the audience, the author ought to state whom the essay identifies with. One such example is: In today’s digital world letter writing has been lost on our teenagers and although their parents grew up in a world of pen and paper letter writing today’s fast pace has left them in the dust. This rough draft does not have a distinct purpose. It goes off in several different directions. The author goes from emails being impersonal to computers malfunctioning and making funny noises to cutting your finger. They essay encompasses everything from email, instant messenger, coloring, pictures and handwritten letters. Is …show more content…
The closest thing resembling a thesis statement is when the author states “You point and click, but some people want to hold something, unwrap a letter and smell it,” however this was not positioned correctly. The thesis was just lost in the middle of the first paragraph. If positioned properly, this would work as a strong thesis statement and help to organize the flow of the essay. However, another sentence that the author wrote in the second paragraph that would also work as a new thesis statement is, “The surprise of a mailed letter provides something to cherish rather than to be deleted.” If the author chose this statement the focus would be on letters being a work of art, saved and treasured and handed down from generation to generation and being an important part of history. The author did well in choosing topic sentences for the supporting paragraphs. They stated “A letter gives someone the real thing.” This topic sentence effectively allows the author to provide supporting information regarding the difference in how an email and a letter are perceived. Another effective topic statement the author stated was “The convenience and efficiency of computers can’t be matched by regular postal services.” This topic allows the author to talk about the strengths and weakness of both styles of communication. However, the author needs a few more topic sentences for some of the supporting

This issue was the repeating of the same information in a different format over and over, until the paragraph is complete. This jumbled up the paper and made it difficult for me to read. In order to address this, the writer was able to structure the way his paragraphs were so that when read, information is built upon each other. This makes it easier to follow what the writer is trying to express because then information is given chronologically vs all over the…

Construction of Rough Point started in 1887 and was commissioned by Frederick W. Vanderbilt, the sixth son of William. At the time of its construction, it was the largest house in Newport, RI and occupied a site of approximately 11 acres which overlooked the craggy rocks and cliffs at the end of Aquidneck Island. Built in the English Manorial style, it was furnished to project the mood of an English country house. The grounds and gardens were designed by the firm of F.L. and J.C. Olmsted. Apparently, life in Newport did not agree with Mr. Vanderbilt, and he sold the house in 1906 to the Leeds family, who sold the house to James Duke in 1922.…

This essay talked about three things I included in my letter. These three things are my word choice, my sentences, and my use of perspective. In Zero's letter I used broken up sent it to show how he is still learning grammar because he is the only one out of everyone who can't read, or write. In Mr. Pendenski's letter I used a lot of Western slang to show his Texan personality.…

To my esteemed English teacher, By writing you this letter, I hope to demonstrate my growth throughout the year and my final mastery of the course’s content. During the revision of the synthesis, I mostly adjusted the shape of the piece; grammar and syntax needed to be fixed in many passages in order to provide a clearer explanation of my ideas. Nevertheless, the rhetorical analysis needed further labor on the content; precisely, the explanation of the author’s use of a certain rhetorical device to achieve his purpose needed to be more detailed. I wrote the both pieces keeping in mind that my audience would be extremely educated upon English language and composition.…

It was generic. The thesis is suppose to tell the reader your point of view is, but mine just strays off from what I was originally talking about then to a completely different thing. I would begin to change it by following my guidelines to making an introductory paragraph perfect and standing, I’d clearly state the thesis with sentence backing up what I’m saying. I’d also give the paragraph a little spice with a variety of sentences.…

The purpose of a thesis statement is to identify what your intentions are while writing a paper. Theses are very crucial parts of creating and understanding what you are writing about in your paper, as well as in your research process beforehand. A thesis statement expresses what you want to make a point of in your paper as well as what means you want to use to express your point. By figuring out a thesis, the metaphorical picture that you are trying to create gains its framing and support for the writing ahead. For example, if you are writing a paper on frogs, first you need to figure out what aspect you want to focus on first.…

During the persuasion section of this course we read an essay called Too Much Pressure, by Colleen Wenke. I found this essay rather interesting, due to the fact that I am a student and the topic she is talking about is cheating in school to get good grades. Our book tells us that claims, thesis statements, evidence, and assumptions are the three main components in a good persuasive essay.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

The thesis statement is a very, very important part of the essay. In their book entitled, Writing: A College Handbook" James Heffernan, John Lincoln, and Janet Atwill clearly explains the following: "A statement of thesis answers your exploratory question and expresses the main point of your essay my making a precise, specific assertion about the topic. A thesis statement expresses your unique insight or way of explaining a subject and often forecasts how you will develop and organize your text." A good thesis statement will lead right into the introduction. "The introduction comes first for the reader, but not necessarily first for the writer.…
