Being a part of Rotary has been an extremely rewarding experience. My participation the last four years has proven to me that helping others is the ultimate high, the best feeling I have ever encountered. I know that I had found my passion that I wish to partake in for the remainder of my life. My passion for community service and lust for seeing the world has determined my future goal, to join the Peace Corps. This Rotaplast project perfectly encompasses my primary future goal. Being able to participate would allow me to “test the waters” of community service abroad, allowing me to have a taste of the wonderful experiences. It would also advance my international understanding, allowing me to become educated in a worldly fashion. Participating

I attend a small high school,Coosa High School, which is in Rome, Georgia. I love my school, but I also love the community that surrounds my school. Over the past three years I have been at Coosa High School, an issue came to my realization. Coosa High School is a Title 1 school, meaning that Coosa has a high percentage of children from low-income families, because of that my school is provided with financial assistance to ensure all students reach their goals. Due to the fact that Coosa is a Title 1 high school, the amount of students that receive free and reduced lunch is rather high.…

Dakota Long, Tyler Lauer, Robert Monaco, Joey Rappazzo, and I arrived on September 30th to participate with the help of the Morongo Preserve. Our parents transported us via automobiles. My friends and others in our class enlisted to understand better and help the environment around us rather than what most of us do on a daily basis. For several hours we moved a massive pile of rocks for later use, and moved dead weeds and branches. It will help the environment for various reasons.…

My goal in life is to leave every place, person, and situation a little better than I originally found it. My background experience as an educator, for more than five years, makes me a great candidate for educational missions. Similarly, my outlook in education makes me a great volunteer, for I believe that a person’s knowledge can always be shaped, regardless of age or previous teachings. Also, I would be a great volunteer for disaster relief missions, for I am very gentle and patient. Correspondingly, my soothing demeanor allows me to be great at helping people who are facing tragedies.…

The organization starts in the middle school and goes into high school. My high school isn’t big on FFA, so I had to find out through a mutual friend. When I started in this club I didn’t know what to except so I was shy at first and didn’t volunteer for activates as much as I should have.…

Through my high school and college careers, I made community service a top priority. I completed many hours through my high school and extracurricular activities such as three years of participating in Wisconsin Day of Service, four years caroling at nursing homes for Project Merry Christmas, and four years helping plan and work the Spencer FFA Easter Egg Hunt. In college, I worked as a server for the annual benefit dinners, volunteered as an escort for guests during the week long convention held on campus, and headed up and created the first ever Freed-Hardeman University Change War with the proceeds going to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.…

Statistics flashed across a screen, solemn music accompanied a slideshow of scenes showing desolate landscapes and impoverished communities. On screen, a mother held her starving child and a group of girls in mismatched clothes gathered water from a muddy well. We watched a presentation given to us before the service event and listened to the instructor as he described the conditions in other countries. He showed us photos of the people we would be helping during the mission, communities that were in desperate need of donations, supplies, and most importantly, food. The Lifeline food packing mission was my first service experience, which was the case for most of the students who participated, and it as also one of the first glimpses we had of just how bad the situations are in countries where starvation and malnutrition are so common.…

Vincent Van Gogh once said, “How can I be useful, of what service can I be? There is something inside me, what can it be?” In life, one usually seeks their great purpose and of what use they can possibly be to the world. The benefits I will obtain through this service trip are immeasurable. As someone who has lived in the same town my entire life and still remains well within the Taft bubble, this trip will give me an opportunity to burst that bubble and see what life is truly like for those less fortunate. At Taft, it’s easy to dismiss the struggles of the rest of the world as mere articles in the news. With the help of this trip, I will force myself to first step out of my comfort zone and experience a culture entirely new to me, and then allow myself to become a more active and aware citizen of the world. For the first time in my life, I will be entirely independent of what I know as normal.…

Leadership is imperative to supporting the foundation of succession in our society. It is important that we exercise our God given right to utilize our sphere of influence to the best of our abilities. Although leadership may gain you more recognition throughout society it is not about the affluence one can acquire; leading is solely about guiding others down a path of success so that future generations can more easily learn from our mistakes to pass down to the next generation. That is why I believe mentoring and any position of leadership should be central to young adults to set the example for the impactful youth. I found my sphere of influence to be within the academic driven chapter of the National Honor Society which in my senior year I was elected president.…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…
