Article 2 section 4 of the constitution states “The president, vice president, and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors. Many of our former presidents have been in some scandalous mess that could have potentially lead to impeachment. Ronald Reagan, though he was not impeached he faced some heat during the Iran- contra scandal. After the charges of misconduct are filed, the Senate has the power to try impeachment cases like a court would any case. At least two-thirds of the senators must vote for conviction in order to impeach the president, vice president, or civil officers.
