As said in the quote History shows bad government and Rome is a prime example. While Rome was in the midst of its downfall all the people were concerned about the Emperor and treating him almost as a god. Everyone idolized him and looked up to him like he was better than themselves. Not long after this most people only looked at what they could do to please him instead of what they could do to please the country as a whole in return of “honour and nobility”. In truth real honour and nobility lies in looking out for your country, not one man. This relates to America because it seems most people look only to please themselves which leads to one thing, terrible leaders. If Americans are only looking out for themselves it leaves plenty of room for soothsayers and slick willies to sneak their way into office by trying to appeal to the public by trying to promise them what they want even though they will never get it. Obama (hate to beat a dead horse) is a prime example in the fact that he promised to send the troops home as one of the first things he would do. We know how that turned out… George Bush Sr. also had the infamous “read my lips, no new taxes,” well let’s just say there was a tax spike. They are wrong. Instead of people arguing over personal beliefs and allowing it to blind the outlook of real problems (those that affect the entire country ie. war, schools, corruption, liberties and economics) not blinding side issues that usually “distinct” the political parties. On the issue of placing the president higher than the populous just isn’t healthy. Especially considering it gives him the feeling that they’re in control. For example, president George Bush Jr. fast tracked the Patriot act through congress giving him direct control to enact war, martial law and use surveillance on the American public.
