People do not get to pick the color of their skin, yet skin color has caused great hardship for people in the world. Black people in the south had to deal with being paid differently because of their skin color. They also did not get paid as well as the white man. Their education was not the best either. The novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by author Mildred D. Taylor, is an excellent example of historical fiction which depicts the many struggles blacks endured in their fight for civil rights.
