Competency V: Function as a Change Agent and Leader The function of the Nurse Educators is to be as a change agents and leaders in order to create an ideal future for nursing education and nursing practice (National League of Nursing (NLN), 2005). In order to function effectively as a change agent and leader, the nurse educator must model cultural sensitivity, Incorporates a long-term, state-of-the-art, and creative viewpoint into the role as nurse educator (NLN, 2005). As a nurse educator, takes part in interdisciplinary efforts to address health care and educational needs locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally. It is important to understand the needs and activities changes with the experience, in order to be effective in their role, nurse educators must take part in professional development opportunities and engage in activities to promote socialization (NLN, 2005). Based on this competency, I always want to keep my knowledge up to date. Because of my interest in higher education, I am doing my masters. As I work in operating room, I did my CNOR certification. During this practicum I demonstrate to my orientees the commitment I have in higher education and certification courses. I always encourage my co-workers and new nurses to continue education. As I am one of the active member of education committee in my organization, I engage in activities which helps in the professional …show more content…
In order to be effective member of the community, the nurse educator must use her knowledge about the current trends to solve the educational issues, determining own professional goal to facilitate the mission of the organization, being an advocate for nursing profession, assuming a leadership role in various levels of institutional governance and Integrating the values of respect, collegiality, professionalism, and caring environment to facilitate educational environment (NLN, 2005). In my online clinical practicum, I actively engaged in building an atmosphere that encouraged learner development by modeling collegiality, respect, professionalism, and compassion while functioning and interacting within the clinical and theoretical environments. Along with my preceptor I was able to demonstrate my skills in teaching during mandatory education. It was a challenging task, as we have to complete our mandatory education within three weeks for all the nursing staff in the hospital. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with many different nurse educators during presentations, in the simulation lab, and in the clinical environment.
