Betwixt the three countries of Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama lays a wonderfully unique country titled the Republic of Colombia, also referred to as simply Colombia. Aside from its current president holding a Nobel Peace Prize from 2016, this country has a lot to offer. Colombia has a beautiful diversity of different landscapes and people. The two most alluring gems of Colombia that seem to stand out in most people's’ minds are Shakira and the National sport of throwing rocks at gunpowder, commonly known as Tejo.
The Republic of Colombia, named after Christopher Colombus, sits in Northern South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea and North Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the only South American country with coastlines on both the North Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Colombia is full of flat coastal lowlands, central highlands, highland of the Andes Mountains, and eastern lowlands which are also referred to as llanos. The majority of the population of Colombia live in the North and West of Colombia where agricultural opportunities are presented. Some say the game originated from the Zipa and Zaque indigenous tribes, who also referred to the game as Turméque. This legend tells that the tribes, instead of playing with any sort of hard discs, played with stones or pieces of wood. This idea also suggests that no gunpowder was involved at all when the game originated. The object of the game was to simply see which tribe member could throw the furthest. This idea goes on to make suggestions of when the game began to evolve into modern day Tejo. It is said that the Spaniards arrived 500 years ago and substituted discs made of lead for the game. This theory suggests that the explosions and the beer drinking got filtered into the game of Tejo during the La Violencia decade
