According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, we have lost a total of 20,789 officers since 1791 to 2015. The number of deaths have done nothing but increase year per year and now we can put an end to that. Our scientists are making a breakthrough in robotics science that the police force is able to use. According to Jonathan Strickland these robots are very mobile and have a sophisticated audio and visual system. Our police force can use these options any time to communicate with a perp or a victim while staying a safe distance away. Jonathan also said that these robots are more commonly used to remove and dispose of an explosive device. According to (Lin), unlike our officers, some of these robots are made tough enough to survive the blast. This however does not mean that we will allow the bombs to go off, the goal of the police force is still to prevent that. When the police are investigating a bomb, they can turn on the cameras and use them to assess the situation. If the bomb is easily accessible and can be moved, then the officers will use the claw of the robot to grip the device and move it to a more secure location. If there are times that the device is not easily accessed or cannot be moved, then the police officers will clear the area and detonate the bomb on-site. Even when the explosive goes off on-site, by using this robot no one is put …show more content…
For example; an armed man barricaded himself in his home in North Carolina. The police tried everything they could to drive the man out of his home including tear gas. But after so many failed attempts they decided to send in reinforcements. The robot ascended the porch steps, entered the home and provided the police with audio and video intel. The first robot was unfortunately smashed to bits, but another one was sent in and served as a communications link and allowed the police to coax the man out of his house. The use of these robots not only protected an officer who could have possibly been shot, it also was used as a communication device that kept the police at a safe distance, and allowed them to convince the man to finally leave his home. Also sending in a robot protected the man inside from doing anything drastic like committing suicide. This robot isn’t the only one that can protect police and innocent bystanders. According to (The Robots Being Used to Help Capture Criminals) a robot called Robotic Ballistic Shield (RBS1) is being used to replace cop car doors. Instead of cops and innocent bystanders having to hide behind the cars, they can hide behind this moving shield. This robot is also used as a battering ram to force entry or smash objects like cars out of their pathway. This will allow our
