Lee during the Civil War. Photographers took portraits of important generals during the Civil War. The portrait shows Lee sitting in his military uniform wearing three five pointed stars on his left collar. The stars signify the rank of colonel even though Lee was the senior general of the Confederate Army. I will use this portrait as a visual reference of what Robert E. It explained his early life growing up in Virginia and his career in the military as a Civil War general for the Confederacy. This website helped me complete my outline so I could gain better background knowledge about Robert E. Lee’s leadership and legacy. I will be able to educate my audience about important battles he fought in during the Civil War.
