The significant progress of Canada: A Great Nation The roaring twenties were a time of prosperity for most and fast growth in Canadian industry, manufacturing and the cities in the fast growing nation Canada. Ever since women got their rights equal to men they began to spend less time at their home. Later Canadian women began to dress like men and wore short skirts to express how they feel because they have been restricted most of the time on what to wear. Sometimes woman will wear thick cloths to make heir chest flat like boys do and change their hairstyle. (Women in the "Roaring Twenties, 2016) Women approached a new habit of smoking and new inventions like hairdryer, dishwasher and washing machines came up. At the time of the 1920s, women were being more involved in society and work like men. Canadian women were open to being secretaries, sales clerks, factory workers, teachers or nurses. Women could participate on Olympic events and sports and Canadian women won champion titles during olympic events. By May24, 1918, all women had the right to vote, this didn't stop on their rights. The Supreme Court of Canada still considered women as “persons’ and couldn't go for political positions. Women couldn't contest on political positions so Louise McKinney and Henrietta Edwards (both Canadian women ) were suffragists who battled to win the vote for women for politics. First, Canada and the United States were trading partners for the most part. Canada, neighbouring with America was influenced by their general lifestyle because of their frequent trades with each other and Canada began to adopt some western styles. Examples are their movies music, and radio. Canada had its first radio gathering at Ottawa which was a hit, influenced by the United States. Canada began to be more independent from the British empire (The Roaring Twenties 2016) . Canada's prime ministers demanded more autonomy. Canada had gained a new sense of maturity because of Canada's major contribution to the war. Canada was given the right to sign the treaty of Versailles on it's own (Canada's Growing Autonomy 2016). They also joined the League of Nations as a separate nation from Britain .They began to make their own decisions about following Britain into war and insisted on signing their own treaties and having separate representation on the League of Nations. Then came the literature and arts which both had positive effect on Canadian culture which contributed to Canada’s pride. Canadian artists (like the Group Of Seven) emerged in the 1920s to paint what they thought of as the beauty in Canada using visual art.
