This was similar with the Scopes Trial in 1925, John Scopes was accused of teaching his students the Theory of Evolution, concerning most Traditionalists. During this time it was against the law to teach evolution in most states. Traditionalists were strong believers in the Bible and thought if their children were taught Evolution they would not grow up the way they wanted them to. Modernists believed children should be shown all the information and be able to decide what they believed in, Modernists believed in science more than religion. John Scopes eventually lost the case and was fined $100. More importantly this showed people were allowed to choose what was taught in schools.
