Risks In A Histology Lab

For a histology lab to be safe and secure there are many activities and procedures that have to be adhered to and evaluated. A majority of issues which occur within a histology lab are most likely to be those about incidents linked to the equipment used, hazardous chemicals, bio hazardous materials used and general risks such as electrical or fire hazards. I am going to discuss the best possible ways to make sure that quality performance within a histology lab, in relation to health, safety and security requirements.

All individuals that enter the laboratory has a role of duty of care to other individuals, and is expected to behave within the correct way which does not compromise the safety of other people. These laboratory rules consist of no eating or drinking anywhere within the laboratory environment; this can result in the accidental ingestion of hazardous materials (Colorado.edu, 2017), they must regard all biological materials and organisms used within this laboratory as potentially pathogenic and infectious to individuals, laboratory coats have to be worn for every practical session, long hair has to be tied back neatly, away from the shoulders, avoid putting any object within your mouth, enclosed footwear has to be worn, covering any open cuts on any exposed skin surfaces and wear gloves, when carrying out procedures to lessen the risks of slashes, spills, and the production of aerosols. If an individual has any accident then they must notify their instructor straight away. For small spillages put of gloves, cover spill with paper towels and put disinfectant onto it.
