Rikki Tavi: Analyzing Themes

Theme is a lesson or moral about life in a story that can be supported by text evidence. For example, in the story “Rikki Tikki Tavi” the author Rudyard Kipling gave us so many facts pointing towards the theme good vs. evil. This is the theme because you can prove that it is true also you can support it with text evidence. Another reason this is true is the protagonist fights the antagonist. The author includes dialogue that helps us figure out that Rikki represents the good so the snakes represent the evil. I guess I can see how some people might think the theme is “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” I have found this theme to be proven wrong by looking at text evidence. It is extremely clear that the theme is good versus evil. This is the theme because Rikki, the protagonist, represents the good. The people in the bungalow are good too because they took Rikki in when he was weak. The other animals are good because they minded their own business and never did anything as rude as eating someone else's baby. Rikki is the protagonist because he is the protector. Rikki fits this role very well because he protects all of the people and animals, and will do anything to do his job, protect. Rikki was raised to be a fighter so he will fight for what he believes in so protectings is in his blood. For …show more content…
Nag represents the evil considering he was rude and tried to take over the garden. Nag thinks that people should worship him because he thinks that he is a descendant from the god Bramh. Nag would also eat the other animals babies. Nagaina, the antagonist would try to kill all the people as well as convincing Nag to do things. However this eventually lead to his death. Karait was just plain rude, like saying he was death and trying to kill people. One thing he did was try to kill Teddy, the young boy who lived in the bungalow. These are reasons why all these animals represent

Every story has a theme, or a central idea. The theme of the book,“Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling, is “Good triumphs over evil.” In this case, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, who represents good, defeats the cobras, who represent evil. Rikki, the mongoose, and the garden animals triumphed over Karait, a venomous, yet small, snake, and Nag and Nagaina, the king cobras. The overall theme of the story is that children have a mind of their own and are entitled to their own opinion, however much it may sway from their parent’s views. Although theme may take extra thought process in a more complex narrative, it is still possible to obtain its central idea. It makes me come to the conclusion, no matter how simple or complex a narrative may be, it is possible to discover its underlying message through context clues (how the child responds, basically back talking) or past experiences…
