The first recorded instance of plastic surgery dates back to about 600 BC. At that time, Hindu surgeons had performed their first nose reconstruction. For this procedure, they used a piece of cheek tissue. By about 1000 AD, the popularity of rhinoplasty, plastic surgery performed on the nose, increased significantly. This operation had spread all around the world. One reason that contributed to the popularity, was the custom of severing the noses and upper lips of the enemy soldiers.
