The logo for it had a picture of "Rocky the Rhino" which was designed by William Stout. They continued on with the label until the late 1980s when it transitioned into a complete entertainment company that specialized in home video re-issues of television programs and compact releases of select artists, movie soundtracks, and retrospectives of famous comedy performers. A few of these artists were Richard Pryor, Stan Freberg, Tom Lehrer, and Spike Jones. Five years later it developed into a record distributor with the help of manager, Harold Bronson. The company continued to produce new music with releases on subsidiary labels such as Rhino’s New Artists, Forward, and Rhino’s main label. The company’s entertainers ended up tending to generate more critical acclaim than public interest with sales totals in the low five figures or less routinely.
In 1985, Rhino signed a six-year distribution agreement with Capital Records because it was a less costly and less risky venture while keeping the company’s private revenue. There was great success in late-1986 with Billy Vera and the Beater’s, “At This Moment”. It was a 1981 song that unexpectedly made it to the top of the US Billboard charts after it was featured in a 1986 episode of Family Ties. During the year 1989, Rhino was evolving into a nationally recognized brand name due to acquiring Roulette Record’s catalog, excluding jazz, in a joint ownership with Capital Records’ parent company,
