Rhetorical Analysis Of 'Tweet' By Donald Trump

Decent Essays
This tweet written by Donald Trump is an example of the fallacy of begging the question because he contradicts his initial argument by doing the act of what he stated he would never do. Trump’s premise states that Bette Midler is an “extremely unattractive women”, however he continues by writing that he would never admit that because he believes in being politically correct. This is begging the question because he blatantly tweeted his thoughts about her and posted them online for everyone to see. Although he says he “refuses to say that”, in the same sentence, he does.

In Coulter’s editorial, “Trump: The Great Unifier!”, she delivers the claim that Tump unifies Americans with his immigration positions, unlike the Democrats, the white liberals, or the previous Republicans; she asserts he treats illegal immigrants like “Americans”, rather than victims. Coulter provides valid points, but that does not make her editorial correct in any form. Logos appeal is used when Coulter states Compton changed to a Mexican majority, but Coulter’s assertion that this occurred because “Mexicans moved in and decided they wanted blacks out” is not supported with any facts or data, making it unreliable. Continuing, she presents logo appeal with Anderson’s opinion on illegal immigrants “taking jobs” because he could not get a job…

Joel Pollak, a senior political editor, writes on the topic of Russian hacking of the 2016 U.S Presidential election in Breitbart News, an online publication that aligns with his right-wing views. His article aims to persuade reader’s that the CIA’s allegations of Russian hacking within the election are false, all while reassuring republican supporters that they have “nothing to fear” (Pollak, 2016), as they won the election fairly. While Pollak’s logical and emotional appeals are strong, his political bias heavily impacts his argument. In addition, several fallacies become apparent throughout his article. Though Pollak’s argument is well-structured, readers should account for the heavy political leanings of the author, the website, and the…

Trump has issued new executive orders that have shocked not only Americans, but also people from all over the world. Basically what these orders are to do is that they are intended to ban Muslims from seven countries from entering the United States. Even those who have been living in America for quite a while are to be deported to their countries. What is more devastating is that students who had their student visas from their home countries to come study in the USA are no more welcomed here and have to face these new abnormal orders. I think the new executive order is definitely intended to discriminate against Muslims because there were no terrorist attacks performed from people who are from these 7 countries in the U.S.…

“(We have) more to do for the young woman in East St. Louis, and thousands more like her, who has the grades, has the drive, has the will, but doesn’t have the money to go to college (Obama, para 6).” Interestingly, he follows this statement with an attempt to dissatisfy one of the commonplace arguments against liberal policies. Mr. Obama says that these people do not ‘expect that government will solve all of their problems,’ but that they are willing to work hard in order to achieve their dreams. This seems to solidify Obama’s ethos with the audience, especially when combined with the specific scenarios that he uses to exemplify the need for his policies. The middle section of the speech is dedicated to the 2004 Presidential Election.…

The slogan that propelled Donald Trump into his influence across the nation, “make America great again,” shows that Trump sees America has fallen downhill and has hopes to improve it. Trump wants to see this country go back to the prosperous country it once was, but he does not know how to filter his words according to most, which makes him seem frightening. Despite Clinton’s accusation about the risk of Donald Trump, his clever use of scare tactics gives voters a sense of security because of his ideas concerning immigration and terrorism. According to Molly Ball, author of “Donald Trump and the Politics of Fear,” Donald Trump uses fear to his advantage in hopes of winning the presidential election.…

This news came as a surprise as Obama had not yet gained national attention, and was not an obvious choice when compared to other candidates. After his inspiring speech however, Obama became well known throughout America which was good news for John Kerry, as Obama’s speech was intended to persuade voters to support Kerry as president. Obama uses rhetorical devices such as climax in structure, epistrophe, and metonymy to persuade skeptical voters to vote for John Kerry as their next president. Obama makes his speech more convincing by using climax to split his speech into multiple sections; the first section is used…
