We live in the modern time where new technology got develop every day to make life become easier for people. Hundreds of years ago, no one would ever imagine that a thing like “the internet” would be invented. Without a doubt, the internet was one of the best intervention that has ever got invented. Not only that the internet has the life of more than most other creations; but it is also the fundamental part in every aspect of life especially in business, education and entertainment. In the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr has brilliantly apply the used of the three rhetorical appeals to convince his reader that the internet is changing the way that an individual think, read and process information. Through the combination of ethos and pathos, Carr was able to shock his reader with the serious consequence that the internet can have on them with a goal that they will be more careful about the amount of time that they spend online. But in all honestly, did he successfully convince his reader? …show more content…
Ever since the movie “terminator” aired back in 1984 the idea of a robot taking over the world has always been somewhat frightening. In the article, Carr used personification when he is talking about the Internet. Instead of simply calls the internet “internet”, he decided to give it a villain name “the Net” and describing the thing it can do like “reprogramming us” and manipulating our minds. Therefore by giving the internet a name and giving it some human characteristic, Carr was able to make the internet seem like a big threat to his reader because it could actually do some physical harm to them.
