Rhetorical Analysis Essay- Adidas Makes a Play for Women

The author, Elizabeth Sergran, is a writer in a Fast company. She earned a Ph.D degree. Her works have been published in The Atlantic, The New Republic, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, and The Nation. In "Adidas Makes a Play for Women," she describes how in Adidas, one of the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and the second largest in the world, biggest sports stars were all about men. Sergran's purpose for this article is to convey that idea that Adidas wanted to incorporate the new changes for women. Not only that, in order to increase their sales domestically and globally, they should get the customers' feedbacks

For logos, she utilizes that well, most of the part, with her use of examples and statistics, though there are a few instances where her appeal to logic is not particularly strong. But, she incorporates pathos excellently due to appropriate placement of this strategy; and the fact that she is knowledgeable about the issue that can strengthen her ethos. She knows how to have an argument but got failed because of a strong ethos. She carries out what is fundamentally stated in her thesis. However, despite her effective use of examples, her argument would have been more effective if her logic was more developed in some areas. Also, this would have made her more credible in the eyes of current readers. Aside from this, she produces effective emotional appeal that is appropriate for both her target audience and for current readers.
