This technique is said to have originated in China. There were documents discovered in the Ma-Wang-Dui tomb in China, which refer to the meridian systems. Texts containing information about acupuncture were passed down through the centuries. This soon became the go to therapy in China, along with herbs, diets, and massages. The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion was published during the Ming Dynasty. It describes the 365 points where the needles were inserted to modify the flow of Qi energy, which is a Chinese word that means aliveness. This book helped form the base for modern acupuncture.
