Respiratory Syncytial Virus Analysis

Decent Essays
This week I choose to define the word respiratory syncytial virus or RSV. RSV is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. RSV can cause bronchiolitis and pneumonia and is the major cause of acute respiratory disease in children. The symptoms of respiratory syncytial virus are mild and typically mimic the common cold. (MayoClinic, 2014)
When my son was about a year and a half old, he developed RSV. I remember him having a barking cough with fever that would come on and off for about a week. I was so upset when the doctor said he wasn’t going to prescribe him any medicine. I wondered how he was going to get better without medication. He then explained that antibiotics aren't administered because RSV is a virus

Eighteen day old, Mariana Sifrit died Tuesday morning from the HSV-1 virus, commonly known as bacterial meningitis. Upon noticing that Mariana had refused to eat and wake up while at their wedding, newlyweds Nicole and Shane Sifrit, rushed Mariana to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, where she was diagnosed with the herpes virus, mostly likely contracted by kiss; both parents tested for herpes and results were negative. Because a newborn’s first month of life is when the infant is most at risk to contract serious illnesses as bacterial meningitis, it is extremely important to stay vigilant for conditions that could put an infant at risk. The herpes virus can potentially develop into meningitis, and in Mariana’s case, she had contracted meningitis which caused serious complications. As Mariana’s condition rapidly deteriorated, she was airlifted to University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital to be stabilized and undergo dialysis for liver failure.…

We have all had a virus at one point. Sometimes I go to the doctor with my mother and he will say something like, "all the tests came back negative so he probably has a virus. " That seems a little confusing because you would think they could tell what the virus was, but there are so many viruses that sometimes we as humans just catch a virus and have to deal with it. Obviously some viruses are not as powerful, but some are very serious and could even lead to death. Two common viruses are Influenza and Rhinovirus, I will write about those later in this paper.…

The potential for harm and self-interest is more prevalent. The choices are more personal and sacrifices more costly.…
