"Resources of the Soil" by Benjamin Cunningham, "Agriculture" by Mallette Dean or "Rural Life" by Conrad Buff are some of the famous WPA murals arounding California. Mural is normally a large painting that is drawn directly in the surface of a wall or ceiling. In addition, murals convey the intent of the muralist which can be about the history or the important moments in the past, things in life or just simply to decorating. After a day going around Berkeley, I found out there is a historic mural named "Incidents in California history" which is located at the Berkeley Main Post Office. Both of the murals have their own attraction in different ways. While my first impressions of the mural located at Berkeley Post Office are the awkward shape, the clock in the middle and the colors are restrained and old, may be because it was made by tempera and oil on canvas but the colors are very harmonious. In addition, the color scheme using for the mural "Incidents in California History" seems to be triadic, there is a lot of uses of three color blue yellow and orange/red which are equally spaced around the wheel. When it comes to the mural "From the Ground Up/Desde las raices", it has a quite unique structure with the combination of bright and dark colors. Turning to the terms of significance, like "Incidents in California History", the mural "From the Ground Up/Desde las raices" reflects the multiculturalism, the diversity and the equality. For the "Incidents in California History", there are white, black and other people doing different jobs, having different religions but living together. Take a look more closely, each part of the mural represents a particular thing, to illustrate, the nun at the bottom right at the corner is the symbol of religious or the family on the top represents the peaceful and prosperous life. Turning to the other mural, the left side of the mural ""From the Ground Up/Desde las raices" is the image of the girl with the opening book, surrounded by many blue waves and five circles shape. From my perspective, the book and the waves represent the sea of knowledge and through studying, the girl in the mural or in other word, any particular person in this planet, from black to white or from Buddhists to Christians, have equal chances for economic, social and intellectual satisfaction, and those are exactly what all the
