Declining due to loss of habitat and climate change, there are as few of 4000 snow leopards in the wild. The earth has six major biomes. Tropical, grassland, desert, temperate, taiga and tundra. The snow leopard lives within the tundra biome. The snow leopard has thick fur and dark spots. These features help the snow leopard adapt and survive in this type of climate and within its habitat. The fur makes a camouflage for the animal to blend in with its environment. The snow leopard is an animal that has a longer tail aside from that of the other big cats. This feature helps to provide additional protection against the cold. The longer tail provides an extra layer to wrap around themself as they lay and rest. The snow leopard also uses its tail for a balancing tool. This balancing tool helps the animal balance on steep slopes, rocks, and to pounce on its prey. (Sartore,2010) …show more content…
An example of this would be sheep. Snow leopards are higher on the food chain than the animals that it prey on and eats. Another animal that the snow leopard hunts is called a marmot. It is a mammal that looks like and is small as a meerkat or rabbit. The snow leopard adapts very well to the environment that it is in. This gives them access to an entire ecological niche with minimal competition from other carnivores in that area. The snow leopard can migrate to a different area to hunt if needed. The snow leopard may eat 20 to 30 adult sheep and that will last them 10 to 15 days. They will hunt deer, birds and even live stock. (Snow Leopard Facts,
