Honduran journalist and television star Salvador Nasralla is poised to win the Honduran presidential elections.
According to Marcos Ramiro Lobo, an officer in the Honduran electoral commission, Nasralla was ahead by a 5 point margin with 70% of the total votes cast already counted. The election officer said that the margin was too large for his rival, incumbent President Juan Orlando Hernandez, to overcome.
Nasralla is a bonafide member of a left-right coalition called the Opposition Alliance Against the Dictatorship when he filed his candidacy for the presidential post. During the tallying of votes, thousands of his young supporters went into the streets of the capital Tegucigalpa cheering and declaring victory for the TV star-turned politician.
