Starting this we decided it would be good to get in their first holiday I’ve experienced with them which was their Jewish new year also known as Rosh Hashanah which started Wednesday, September 20th through Friday, September 22. This is also the first of the High Holidays celebrated ten days before Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is a two day celebration which begins on the first day of Tishrei, which is the first month of the Jewish civil year. This day marks the beginning of the year because it is held on the traditional anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, who are the first woman and man in the Hebrew bible. Because my patient is bed bound we watched the Jewish programs on the Tv and got to hear the sounding of the shofar which is a hollowed out ram’s horn. That night you enjoy a festive meal and the whole family came over and cooked and got to spend the first day of this celebration together. This was also the tenth day of Tishrei. Atonement is for personal and national sins and also sealing the fate of each other for the upcoming year. When Mrs. Tina was younger she would traditionally observe this holy day with a 24 hour fasting, abstaining from physical pleasures, refraining from work and doing intensive prayer often spending her day in synagogue services. But now she stays with her parents and celebrates the holidays from their apartment. This day they also all watched the services on the Tv where they had five prayer services. Chanukkah, the Jewish festival of rededication, also known as the festival of lights, is an eight-day festival beginning on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, is probably one of the best known Jewish holidays, not because of any great religious significance, but because of its proximity to Christmas. Many non-Jews and even many assimilated Jews, think of this holiday as the Jewish Christmas, adopting many of the Christmas customs, such as elaborate gift-giving and decoration. It is ironic that this holiday, which has its roots in a revolution against assimilation and the suppression of Jewish religion, has become the most assimilated, secular holiday on their calendar. Therefore, the story of Chanukkah begins in the reign of Alexander…

I am David Shane Dobyns, twenty-two years of age; I was born in Puyallup Washington, August 17th 1994 at the Good Samaritan hospital. My family consists of mother, father, and brother who live in Germany. Growing up was as idyllic as one could suspect, in my prepubescent years we moved to the states in search of “gods’ plan” for us, starting a church in Texas. The church siphoned our resources to the brink of poverty, but we were happy all the same. Through the eyes of a jaded 5-year-old, everything was but a perfect utopia, neither a problem nor a care in the world.…

It gets stupidly hot in Danielsville, Louisiana, especially around summer. This would be fine I guess if we had something to do, to keep our mind off of the heat but there isn’t anything to do. Danielsville, Louisiana has three churches (Pentecostal), twice as many bars, one high school and no books stores or libraries. This means you’re either too drunk to read, or too Christian to read anything good. Big enough to have a mayor’s house, but not big enough to be on any map of any kind, it’s the kind of town where everyone knows your name and basically everything about you.…

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

My Favorite Holiday Thanksgiving is officially my favorite Holiday. There are two main reasons why I enjoy Thanksgiving so much; food and family. First, the food, my mouth waters from the thought of it! Succulent and juicy turkey, cold fresh country ham, velvety creamed corn, fluffy buttery mashed potatoes, creamy yams, flakey biscuits, and rich green bean casserole. Gathering around my grandparent's large dining room table with family and close friends of the family will always fill me with warmth.…

From a rare moment of flabbiness in Israeli intelligence and in the government, Israel did not expect any attacks from its neighbours just at this point in time. The background for this is that too very important religious festivals coincided in both Islam and Juadism, two Festival in which there was prohibition againts warfare. Thanksgiving is the special time of year when families come together to enjoy each other's presence and say thanks for all the gifts they have been given. Which is what makes Thanksgiving one of my most favorite holiday's. Thanksgiving is a time for family to practice traditions and bond with good people, over good food. My favorite Thanksgiving dinner, and my favorite dining experience overall, happened 2 years ago at my Aunts house. Have you ever walked into school on the first day of the year, or back from a long break, and realized you don’t remember anything you learned? Many students, myself included, experience this problem often. Most teenagers spend their breaks from school watching television, playing video games, and doing pretty much anything that isn’t studying or school related, causing them to forget most of what they learned at school. One solution to this problem would be to have students attend school year-round with various, shorter breaks throughout the year. Students should attend school year round because they could be taught more information, their grades could improve, and it keeps them on a routine.…

Senior Year My greatest memory so far in my eighteen years of being on this earth is without a doubt my senior year of high school. It was absolutely unforgettable. My senior year as a whole (which was just last year) was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and the happiest I have ever been. When I was a chubby little freshman with glasses I thought to myself that high school would be one of the longest time periods of my life and that four years would feel like forty years. But man was I wrong, high school went by in the blink of an eye.…
