My favorite fashion icon would have to be singer, Rihanna. Although I am a fan of her music, I am an even bigger fan of her fashion. To me, fashion is an extremely important way of expressing yourself. Rihanna’s style is versatile, bold and effortless all at the same time. She is comfortable in her own skin, proud of her body and quite evidently, is unafraid to show it off.
I believe Rihanna and I have the same outlook when it comes to fashion, and what it means. It ought to be an adventurous activity that is both thrilling and freeing. It should be an ongoing experiment, to match what works best for one’s body type and personality. Rihanna has never had a problem starting her own trends or standing out. One of my all-time favorite red carpet looks would be her 2015 Met Gala dress. Rihanna chose a yellow, fur-trimmed authentic Chinese ensemble which took two years to complete, in staying true to the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme of the night. What may be viewed as ‘over-the-top’, to me, is pure dedication and courage. At a star studded event, where many chose to err on the side of caution and stick to ‘safer’, more conventional dresses, Rihanna chose to make a

This article is similar to the article “The Fashion Industry: Free to Be an Individual” by Hannah Berry, because both articles speak on how women need to embrace their individuality and reach deep inside of themselves and allow that to show in every aspect of their lives. Each and every woman is free to be exactly who she wants to be, no matter what anyone else thinks. For example, in the comedy, 30 Rock, Liz Lemon “wore Duane Reade bags for underwear” (Nussbaum 57) and decided to be a cheerleader and shake her butt as an older lady. This showed she didn’t care what others thought and was comfortable just being herself. NEED STUFF…
