As you can see Di Renzo is very detailed when he writes and you are able to picture what is happening in your head. He continues this story by showing emotion for Italian food and goes on about Americans taking advantage of the immigrants from Italy. America has taken Italian food and made there own twist on it, which did not make Di Renzo happy. He wanted to keep the traditional Italian way going but instead ended up not getting any homemade Italian meals in America. You can tell Di Renzo takes this very personal and you can feel the emotion through the story by him stating, “Time gobbles customs and nations more greedily than Neapolitan urchins gobble sausages” (30).…

Another thing about Italy is the way they punish their voters. They do so by posting their names outside city hall and announce the amount of years they did not contribute. Clearly this is not a good idea, instead of punishing for what they aren't doing, praise them for what they are doing. Give every individual who votes a tax voters tax cut. However, the head of the Italian government is not the president, it is the prime minister. Even though the prime minister is the head of the government he is still a member of the president’s cabinet, but he is the one that creates a list of people that the president must use too appoint the cabinet members. However, the president is still the commander-n-chief of the Italian armed forces, and the chief diplomat for Italy.…

Italy, as a whole, has been shaped by its long and rich history. This includes everything from class and racial conflict, to military advancements, the slow creep of fascism under Mussolini, and myriad economic and immigration related issues. Italy has long prided itself on an ability to welcome immigrants and a general sense that racial identity should always be secondary to national identity. Fundamentally, this meant that Italians cared more about whether or not a person was born in Italy and had an Italian upbringing than the color of one’s skin or the genetic makeup of the individual. This nationalistic fervor has still plagued the nation in some ways, as it makes life harder for those attempting to immigrate and naturalize successfully,…

According to Cinotto (2013), they created their own values and cultural traditions while only selectively keeping traditions they had known before. This can be seen through cuisine as it has been noted that foods that are seen as culturally Italian now, such as spaghetti and meatballs, may not have been ethnically based but instead ethnically created as women, the caretakers of the family, used what they had available to them (Cinotto, 2013). Cinotto (2013) also notes that this new creativity in cuisine rose from the parent’s disgust due to what their children were being fed in public…

Influenced by the Mediterranean diet, the Italian culture incorporates pastas, vegetables, wines, and fish. Although Italy, totally, focuses on these four components, “there are regional differences in what is eaten and how food is prepared” ("Culture of Italy - history, people, clothing, women, beliefs, food, customs, family, social," n.d.). This correspondingly demonstrates in the United States, as different regions prepare, display, and eat food in different mannerisms. Generally our overall European culture…

In “A Room with a View,” by E.M. Forster, there are two main settings: Florence, Italy and Summer Street, England. These two locations may belong to the same continent, but their significance and influence differs widely. Florence, Italy is portrayed as whimsical and dramatic in the book. During Lucy’s time in Florence, there’s almost always something happening, whether it be a murder in broad daylight (28) or getting caught receiving a kiss from a man of lower class (47). This likely represents a more free and exciting way of life compared to living in England.…
