Each God has there own abilities, and also have their own personification. The most important Gods were the Olympian Gods, they were led by Zeus. These were Athena, Apollo, Poseidon, Hermes, Hera, Aphrodite, Demeter, Ares, Artemis, Hades, Hephaistos and Dionysos. These Gods were given human bodies, and characteristics. They can be bad or good. As ordinary people they have children and marry. The gods would become patrons of cities, and were called upon for certain situations. Such as Ares for war and Hera for weddings. Over time the temples were made for particular Gods, and they usually housed a cult statue of the deity. The most famous statue is Zeus in Olympian, but over time there was a whole complex of temples to lesser gods could spring up around the main temple, which made this a large complex of temples.
