The declaration of independence is a statement that was adopted by the continental congress that announced that the thirteen American colonies, at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as thirteen newly independent sovereign states. The declaration of independence took place in Pennsylvania on July 4 of 1776.

The declaration of independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. The purpose of it was to announce the colonies as separate from England. The Declaration of Independence consists of five parts which are the introduction, the preamble, the indictment of King George III, the denunciation of the British Government, and then the conclusion.
