Being involved with repeat offenders who take no responsibility for their actions is one of the main reasons I could not do the work you do. After reading your letter I wanted to look into what other states are doing. I found that Tennessee is the only state with statutes that specifically makes it a crime to use illicit drugs while pregnant. In Alabama and South Carolina, the high courts have enacted child endangerment and chemical endangerment statutes which allows for prosecution of drug-using pregnant women and new mothers (Miranda, Dixon & Reyes, 2015).
