The painting by Eric J. Garcia which is named “remember” instantly caught my eye during my visit to the Mexican Art Museum because I have been doing a project on the Alamo for another class. The painting itself was created in 2005 and is oil on canvas and it very vivid in the actual meaning and to an average art observer, it should be easy to depict the actual meaning of the battle going on. The artist uses many different techniques to resemble a historic moment, the painting itself has historic and cultural meaning due to the actual battle taking place, also the painting itself shows high levels of tensions between the two parties. Tensions are on high alert now during the battle of the Alamo because it is a very bloody war in which both sides loose countless men and the whole Texans army is killed since they did not want to have any prisoners held hostage. The center of the painting has a main eye grabber and that is Davy Crockett holding a sword towards another soldier, but that other soldier’s uniform does not match along with the rest of them. Also, right below the center of the painting is what appears to be a Navajo member on his knees praying or begging for mercy from the Mexican army. The what appears to be Navajo member has multiple guns pointed at him from different angles even though he is not posing an immediate danger to anyone, the Mexican army is showing a massive amount of force for a single person and that goes back to the theme of tension. Tension plays a major role in wars because the main reason you are there fighting in the moment is because of previous encounters or past involvements. In conclusion, the painting which is titled Remember, by Eric J. Garcia, has displayed a major appreciation to the sacrifices of both leaders of the war. Even though tensions ran high throughout this troubled time, everyone understood the reasons and stood together to accomplish one common goal. The artist of this painting put away the comments and just painted the truth behind the battle of the Alamo. The artist’s depiction of the events that unfolded on the day of the Alamo are spot on and his use of color, light, vibrancies, and texture make the image stand out and represent the past in a more modern
