Religion Interview Report

I stated this the first time and I will state it again, interviewing two people from the same spiritual tradition is very interesting. This time around, I interviewed a young man and I also interviewed an older woman. The young man’s name is Roderic who is 20 years old and the older woman’s name is Brenda who is 55 and they are both of the Baptist faith. The first question was “What is your image of God?” Roderic answered that he saw God as not being a person in a sense. He said that he sees God as being more of feeling and an emotional sensation than an actual person. He added “I don’t know, I have never really thought about it. I just don’t see God as being a person that I would actually be able to see. When I asked Brenda the same question, she replied that she saw God as being a person that does not really have a face. She sees him more of being someone that you can hear and feel but not necessarily put human physical characteristics to. She ended her answer by saying that “God is too high and mighty to be able to really picture the way that I would picture another person. These were two answers that I have never thought about and it proved very interesting …show more content…
And is it a direct punishment or a consequence of one’s own actions?” Roderic answered the question by saying that people get what they deserve based on their own actions. He added that God will only help a person so much and then you’re on your own. Lastly, he said “God is a good God but he isn’t going to be abused for that same kindness.” When I asked Brenda, she gave me a different answer. She said that God will put people through many trials and tribulations to get a person to understand. She also believed that is a consequence of a person’s action. She ended by saying “God will let you get what you deserve but you have nobody to blame but yourself.” These were a little similar and also different answers but also very insightful

In Judaism, their perspective on this concept is that one who has mistreated another must earnestly seek forgiveness from them, and they are expected to do so a number of times. The victim will be held accountable for the individual’s actions if they do not grant forgiveness, as it is their religious responsibility to do so, and thus, the person who has pursued their pardon will receive this from God instead. This concept of forgiveness is applied throughout the teachings of Judaism. However, if Christians endeavour to achieve forgiveness from God, and have exhibited this to others, the Lord will absolve these individuals from sin. Followers also request that God absolves the acts of unjust from those who committed a sin towards the individual.…

    1) I think people doubt that God is real because they don't believe the whole he came back to life thing because it could be kinda hard to believe that Jesus died on the cross, but I fully believe that jesus really did die on the cross for my sins, and i will continue to believe this throughout my whole life. The way you answer people that have doubts say to them God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son and who believes in him will not die but rise in heaven, and also ask them to pray for one month straight for a minute every hour and then ask them to come back and tell you what has changed in their lives. 2) The way I know my faith is right is that I know that I am so blessed with good education and with an amazing family,…

I found the homework assigned to us for the tutorials last week to be very meaningful, as it made me truly question the meaning behind religion, and what it encompasses. It was mentioned in Nye's book, as well as discussed during class that sometimes, simple things like games can be considered religious if the actions of the people dedicated to these games are observed. For example, sports like football and baseball are often "religiously" discussed among the sports enthusiasts, ritual actions may be performed during the game, and even the players are given a divine status and are revered by fans. However, does that really mean that the sport becomes a religion? Or does it really become a religion in the sense that, say, Christianity and Islam…

Although, disregarding that mistake, time continued to pass and I often pondered upon my questions. Some were very common, such as “if God is all powerful then why does he not end poverty, or crime, or natural disasters?” Along with the question of “how come God cannot answer my prayers right away or ever?” These questions kept my mind busy, but there was one thought that played throughout my brain like a scratched record constantly on replay and that was “why does God allow terrible actions to fall upon people who do not deserve it?” It is a question that has passed through the thoughts of many people on this planet and it had me truly perplexed.…

Understanding Others Sally is different from me in number of ways, but some of our differences are she is a mother, she refers to herself as a Christian, she still lives in the town she grew up in, and she has a job.…

I am a non-practicing religious, more spiritual, person. I decided for my service learning project to interview someone who is practicing from the same religious background that I came from. Even though I grew up taught religion by my Catholic mother, I was never truly practicing. Even with this I found many similarities to a practicing Christian. I chose to interview because I was curious about how my non-practicing views meshed with someone from the same religion who is much more read in it.…

Research Inquiry question: Why do people do bad things I the name of religion? I developed this question thinking that it is a very controversial subject, religion. Religion is argued frequently, rather be by nonbelievers or believers. But what made me focus more into this question in particular was just how often this happens by people all over the world. For example, some events that happen in which people blamed their bad actions towards religion were events such as the holocaust, slavery, murders, etc.…

Growing up in a Mexican American household, most likely one is to be raised Catholic. Therefore, as a young boy it became ordinary to follow and believe in what my parents instilled in me. However, now that I am taking Social Work 461 with Dr. Tillman, one of my assignments is to attend a religious service that is held by a group that is different from mine.
