The primary purpose, which relates to my overall theme, of this empirical study was to determine how transformational leadership characteristics affect the medium through which subordinate individuals attempt to influence their transformational leader. The three mediums that the study is based on are: soft, hard, and rational. The conductor of the study hypothesized that the subordinate individuals would plausibly utilize a soft – inspirational and charismatic – and rational – intellectually stimulating and individualistic – approach when influencing their leaders. Hence, an experiment was conducted in order to validate or falsify this hypothesis. The subjects of the study were an amalgamation of undergraduate and graduate students …show more content…
The conductors of the study hypothesized that transformational leadership is positively related not only with followers’ job satisfaction, but also with that of objective team performance. In order to empirically validate or falsify their hypothesis, the conductors created an experiment that consisted of 360 employees and their direct supervisors from 39 academic teams. The primary method of study was that of a survey, which was administered online, and all the participants received an email with a cover letter that briefly explained the purpose of the study, confirmed anonymity, and voluntary participation. Firstly, transformational leadership was measured on a 1 to 5 scale, which composed of four categories: inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, and idealized influence behavior. Secondly, job satisfaction was measured on a 1 to 7 scale, which composed of five categories: supervisor, tasks, working conditions, general job satisfaction, and support of career. Finally, team performance was measured on scale of 0 to 91, which composed of factors such as: number of publications by each respective team, the 2010 impact factor of the journal, and the average journal impact factor. Furthermore, this set of criteria allows for the study to …show more content…
The conductors of the study hypothesized that since the Millennials are entering the workforce with a higher amount of debt than the Baby Boomers, the more recent generation would most likely be extrinsically motivated; however, at the same time the conductors also hypothesized that due to an increase in individualistic traits over time, the Millennials would search for occupations that genuinely interest them, and provide a more personal connection with the individual. The primary method that was employed in this empirical study was that of a survey/questionnaire, and the representative sample was composed of graduating high school seniors of the following years: 1976, 1991, and 2006; hence, these years consisted of individuals from all 3 different generations. Consequently, in order to avoid any bias, the samples were not only chosen randomly, but also did represent the entire United States, as factors such as race, socioeconomic status, gender, and region were give significant importance. The conductors randomly chose high schools of all types around the nation, which represented all of the factors listed in the former statement. Every year, approximately 15,000 seniors were asked to fill out one of the 5 different forms, which were crafted with several
